The BodyTalk System has been practiced in Northern California almost from its inception. The BodyTalk System was developed by John Veltheim in 1995, based on his background in both Western and Eastern Medical Science. Northern California practitioners were some of the first students of this Energy Medicine system in the late 1990s.
Beginning in the early 2000s training in this comprehensive system began to be offered locally, including instruction from Dr. Veltheim himself. By 2002, local instructors were certified to teach the introductory modules. Since 2003, a concerted effort by several coordinators has brought in Senior Instructors to teach Advanced Modules in BodyTalk and associated classes like Mindscape, Breakthrough, and AnimalTalk.
By 2006, 17 students in Northern California were certified to practice this system that draws on developing both the left/analytical and right/intuitive parts of the brain. Inspired to share this powerful system with other potential practitioners, local practitioners undertook hosting one of the International BodyTalk Association’s first Learning Forums. At this San Francisco event, Dr. Veltheim and other Instructors offered four levels of BodyTalk trainings from beginning to advanced to approximately 100 students.
The geographic diversity of Northern California proved challenging but not insurmountable as new students traveled from Sacramento, Santa Rosa, the Foothills, and Monterey back to the Bay Area for study groups to become certified practitioners. Over the next two years, the number of CBPs more than doubled to 38 professionals.
In the Fall of 2007, Practitioners began meeting to discuss how to work collectively to share the power of BodyTalk with the Northern California community. Committees were formed to develop strategies for greater visibility of the BodyTalk system and accessibility to training classes. With practitioners located in 18 different counties, modern internet communication methods have made it possible to create and begin to implement a collective vision. By June 2008, over 80% of the eligible members had joined together to create the Northern California BodyTalk Association, NCBT. By the following October, the Association celebrated the launch of its regional website, taking a large stride forward in its mission to communicate the transformative power of the BodyTalk system to Northern California.
